The system is now up and running for two weeks and starts to be fun again. That's particularly thanks to the freshly bought additional Gig of RAM. Vista eats RAM. Most of the slow-downs I experienced earlier could be traced back to a lack of memory. And my Ubuntu, which gets currently booted about as often as Windows, doesn't mind the extra-RAM, either ;)
Do you feel like an update of my kitchen-misery? Here you go: Currently it develops pretty fine :) The table board is perfectly horizontal and the sink is already installed and working - though currently only with cold water, because the hot-water pipes are leaking >_< Next Tuesday, when the electrician and the plumber did their work, it's time to cook our very first meal on our very own stove!
... man, I became square!

Ok, the post below was perhaps a little early fired. Currently I'm installing all the stuff I need and suddenly the system feels like I lost two of the three Gigahertz :( Installing the first of two necessary ServicePacks for VisualStudio took more than an hour and it is not possible to run more than one install-process at once. If the system continues to snoooooze like that, Vista won't stay long on my harddisk!

Just killed my main system (*KoMain* ;) ) and revived it with Windows Vista and Ubuntu Linux - and I like it. Windows Vista is a lot of nicer than the web-crowd made me believe before. Everything works nicely and faster than in my old XP (which, to its defence, was almost three years installed on the machine) and Aero looks really kewl. At least after some tweaking to get rid of all the "Klicki-bunti", of course.
And Ubuntu is till my favorite OS and would most likely be my only OS, if VisualStudio, C# and DirectX were available there. Leave me alone with Wine and XServer, I don't like Wine and XServer. And posix-layers are deseases not api's. Period. The big Kahuna has spoken.

Nothing really new ... Drilling holes in concrete walls is an asshole. Building a kitchen is an asshole - especially this one (*grrrrrr*). See on the right the result of few but astonishing frustrating hours.
I feel the urge to work on PoRoBa stronger than for a long time, but don't seem to find the time (damn kitchen!!). I even don't seem to find the time to work on my diploma thesis :/
Well, but all in all the flat is developing nicely, it already feels like a home. And I lost my well-established and long-time-tested wake-sleep-rhythm (the one, when you have to hurry to get in time to the grocery-store before it closes. At 8 pm.)! But not for long, I will fight to get it back ;)

It's really funny: I bought a HUGE desk for my new flat in order to be finally more productive and efficient. Well, currently I'm forced to work on a tiny table in the room that's supposed to contain one day our kitchen (see picture) - and it works great. I have all I need handy, I don't even miss my second (or third) monitor! Somehow, that's not even funny.
I admit, that's no good news today. But I had to upload a picture to brag about a new script, I just finished: the ImageHandler. So, I can now manage all my images via this interface and don't need FTP anymore, besides for more new functions, of course. Yeahyeah, I hear you "big deal". I'm proud anyway.

The link to this web-comic site, xkcd, is already in my links section, but I have to mention it again, cause this strip will crack you up. "I laughed so hard I peed a little" (for all you Scrubs-fanboys). Actually, I snorted when I started laughing ... on my keyboard. D'oh!

Guess, where I am! ... back online :D
I know, most of you guys have now the WTF-twinkle in their eyes, so let me explain: Since I'm currently moving from one place to another in Munich (by the way: damn, I still have to update the "impressum" - memo to me!) I had the chance to switch to another ISP as well. I'm happy to get rid of my old provider, because they were really dickheads to veteran-customers while sucking off new ones! They get triple the speed for half of what I was paying lately >_<
... anyway, because of this switch I was off for four and a half day. Sounds like not much? It was for me! Pure AGONY! It was like missing half of your brain (the half that can remember stuff, that is). I really hadn't thought before, that I was that hooked on online-nonsense. But now I'm back! Surprisingly, me hands were not shaking for lack of fresh bytes - but if they were, they would slowely stop now ;)
This whole moving-business makes me feel funny. Well yeah, it may be missing the net, but I think this is something else. Feels like, the guy I was for the last five or six years is about to fade and be replaced be a new me. Old, lengthy thought chains suddenly stop, because the right tracks are suddenly missing (to stay in the metaphor). New thoughts pop up - thoughts that alienate me a little. I'm not sure, if I'm headed to one of the deepest emotional abysses ever or something completely different. We'll see.
So, what's the cause? There shouldn't be much disturbing: Well, yeah, my private time may shrink in the new apartment - but the together-private-time will be increased ;) Perhaps, it's realizing, that now I'm not one of the young ones any more. Living together, the close closure of my study, being more thirty than twenty, school-friends who sport grey hair, ... Where did the time go.

Just got back from the "SummerBreeze"-Festival yesterday. Ahhhh, and I am relaxed right now ... yeah, yeah, I have lots and lots to do - but somehow, I don't do all that and I am still relaxed :) I just need that once a year: Camping with several good friends in the summer, drinking way to much ethanol, listening to and chanting songs - and completely neglecting your manners. Oh wait, bands were there, too, and they did a good job justifying the festivals admission charge and completing this unique festival feeling. See you next year, guys, und lasst Wundwasser fließen!
By the way, the site I build for my mother is now online in its own domain www.petra-schicker.de. It's still not finished, but I'm rather proud of it - mainly, because I used some new stuff and learned a lot ;)
And to brag a little: The page is now a simple, but nearly complete, content-management-system. You don't have to know html or anything but still can add and change any content ... now, I'm considering doing the same with this site, that is, making it interactively changable (at least for me) ... Oh, I know me: Don't expect any new content before this update is done >_<

I'm sure all of you guys have already seen the The Simpsons-Movie - and probably loved it as I did. And, as common with nowadays films, there is a sophisticated website dedicated to the movie, too - and you just have to see it. Among other wicked-cool stuff, there's a "make yourself a simpson"-prog similar to the famous Mii-constructor from Nintendo that transformed (without the "help" of Michael Bay) virtually anyone I know to a chubby cone-person. Well, that's me in the Simpsons-verse ^^ ==>
